I love the book “Obese From The Heart ” by Dr. Sara Stein. She’s a psychiatrist and physician (I call her a holistic healer) who believes in addressing the condition of Obesity with what I like to call the “buffet” approach – a little of this, and a little of that.
Your body is an amazing thing, telling you exactly what you need in the areas of nutrition and physical movement to keep you running and feeling your best – when and how to slow down to heal, everything is there. Just what is the huge computer that is your brain saying when you get those cravings? Is it simply hormonal, emotional, or physiologic? Sometimes it’s 1, 2, or all of the above! It’s just about interpreting the code.
It’s a great read, short and easy. I keep referencing it again and again.
Plus – the woman suggests eating 1 and 1/2 oz 70% dark chocolate daily for depression and stress to lower the stress hormone cortisol, raise serotonin, and allow weight loss.
That’s a prescription I will gladly follow!

Sara L. Stein, M.D., is a psychiatrist, author, speaker, and teacher. Her witnessing reflects the soul within both patient and doctor. These are not the stories of individuals, but the collective wisdom of working with thousands of people of all ages and all walks-of-life who struggle with their lives. Some struggle with addictions, some with circumstances, some with biology, but all with a need for greater healing than our current overtaxed medical system can offer.
