How & why I fell in love with Twitter…

by Linda Eaves on February 4, 2010

This goes along with my on going mission to get off the couch and out into the world…I had no idea that I’d be getting out in such a big way. Read on:

I had a twitter account for months and didn’t say anything because I just didn’t get it, was afraid to sound stupid, and so I didn’t say anything at all. I just watched.

Then I met Laura Roeder and that all changed. She gave me a couple tips about twitter – it was like a light bulb went on! Now I’m doing things I’ve never done before, like going to tweet-ups. What’s a tweet up? Think of it as a play on words – think “meet up”.  It’s simply using Twitter as a way to organize or promote a live event. You post to Twitter about where and what time you’ll be at – “Epulo Bistro” for instance, and then people show up – it’s very fun! This is exactly what happened on Tuesday night. People were even tweeting and taking pictures while they were there. I met Incredible Chef Karen, and Tim proprietor of Epulo Bistro.

Before when I wanted to organize something I’d send out an email – but Twitter reaches even more people faster,  and because of your followers, you’re also touching base with people who you don’t know yet – getting a chance to meet different people.  I’ve come to rely on Twitter as my post weight loss surgery community, and – I love to shop and recommend people, places, and things too! I have found so many good deals and learned so much. I love it.

I’m really excited to tell you about a new idea Laura discovered for getting testimonials from what people are already saying on Twitter. EVEN if no one is talking about you yet. I think some of you might like this tip and find it useful.

P.S. I hate asking for testimonials. It’s kind of awkward and uncomfortable for me. But this is super easy! Laura kind of stumbled across it and made a free video – here’s the link -Easy Twitter Testimonials. Click on it and let me know what you think. Here’s a little more information –

Just a heads-up that I released a new free video to my blog this morning! It outlines the 3-step method for turning twitter into an automated testimonial machine – EVEN if no one is talking about you yet. This is a method I use for my own business that I really discovered by accident. It is SUPER easy to do and the cool thing is after you set it up once you have a stream of real testimonials automatically fed to any site on the internet – could be an about page, a blog, a dedicated testimonials page or even on a sales page. Cool huh?
Here it is: Easy Twitter Testimonials.

Enjoy and please comment if this tip was helpful to you!

Thanks for this post Linda! I think twitter is such an amazing tool for bringing people together – especially for people who need support like your weight loss surgery community. It used to be that someone might not know anyone else who had the surgery in their area and feel totally alone. Now we can pop on twitter, forums, and blogs and reach out to others 24/7. Truly powerful stuff.
