Top 4 Tips For Nurturing Your Post Weight Loss Surgery Pouch

by Linda Eaves on June 27, 2009

When I first came home after my surgery, I was sooo excited and felt totally overwhelmed.  Maybe you are going through some of the same things! It can be a bit confusing depending on how you’re feeling post surgery.  Always follow your doc’s recommendations – and here’s what he told me:

  • REST
  • Take small sips of water to stay hydrated – I liked non caffeinated tea in the morning, or even just warm water with a squeeze of lemon.
  • Take your vitamin supplements & post surgery prescriptions
  • Get your protein in!

You might not be able to consume all of your protein right away. If that is the case, please don’t worry. Your insides are healing after surgery and you might feel tight. Go gentle, take small sips of liquids, & keep hydrated!

Here’s some easy things that I did on my first couple days home. Follow whatever the doctor/surgeon/nutritionist tells you. Yes, I am repeating myself.

Good Morning Loser! ;)

In the mornings I like a warm herbal tea (my fave is peppermint sweetened with Splenda) to get my insides woken up. It’s soothing to me, but you might want something different. Your medical team might suggest that you stay away from caffeine for the first month so your stomach isn’t irritated. This is when I did either a protein shake or a pureed soft food. I’ll write more about those options next post. Go gently oh thee with the new infant stomach, you will get full very fast! If you’ve really never known what “full” was – it can be an amazing, liberating state of mind!

In the mean time, go take a nap, drink water, or walk depending on where you are in your day.
Then, take a nap again. Naps are wonderful for healing your body!
